Ex-Audi LMP1 racer Marcel Fassler will join Corvette for Le Mans

Former Audi LMP1 driver Marcel Fassler will return to the Le Mans 24 Hours this year as part of Corvette's GT line-up

Fassler was left on the sidelines of the World Endurance Championship following Audi's withdrawal from LMP1 at the end of last season, and rejected the chance to race for rival manufacturer Toyota at Le Mans this year to compete in the Blancpain GT Series with factory Audi squad WRT.

The 40-year-old Swiss driver is contesting a parallel programme in the IMSA Sportscar Championship with Corvette for the second year running, and will now form part of the American manufacturer's GT effort at Le Mans.

Triple Le Mans winner Fassler will join Oliver Gavin and Tommy Milner in Corvette's #64 GTE Pro entry, while the team has also confirmed 2017 Daytona 24 Hours winner Jordan Taylor will again return to Le Mans, partnering Antonio Garcia and Jan Magnussen in its #63 car.

These six drivers have a combined total of 18 class victories at Le Mans, while Corvette has conquered GTE Pro (or its equivalent) eight times since 2001.

Mark Kent, Chevrolet's director of motorsports, said: "This represents one of the strongest lineups Corvette Racing has fielded for the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

"Just like our full-season lineup, Jordan and Marcel have proven themselves repeatedly on the biggest stages in sportscar racing.

"We are confident they help give us the best possible chance to win Le Mans for the ninth time."

Taylor has been part of Corvette's Le Mans program since 2012 and was part of its class-winning GTE Pro effort in 2015 alongside Gavin and Milner, while Fassler won GTLM class of the 2016 Daytona 24 Hours and the 12 Hours of Sebring for Corvette, alongside Gavin and Milner.

Fassler and Taylor will drive for Corvette in a pre-Le Mans test at Road America this week.
