Monza European F3: Eriksson gets pole position back from Norris

Joel Eriksson has been re-awarded the Monza pole position initially given to fellow joint Formula 3 European Championship leader Lando Norris

Eriksson and some of the other drivers had lap times disallowed during the qualifying session for alleged track-limits infringements.

In the Swede's case, the deletion of his second-best lap cost him pole for race three, putting him down to fifth on the grid and Norris onto pole.

Several other competitors had further lap times disallowed in the hours after qualifying had finished as stewards studied the verdicts from observers.

But it now appears that the officials have found inconsistencies in the reporting of the transgressions, and all lap times have been restored.

The top five on the grid for Sunday morning's race two remains unchanged, with Eriksson on pole from Norris, Mick Schumacher, Callum Ilott and Ferdinand Habsburg.

Jake Dennis and Maximilian Gunther get lap times restored to put them sixth and seventh respectively from Guan Yu Zhou, Nikita Mazepin and Jehan Daruvala.

But Mazepin will get a six-place grid penalty for two incidents that took place during the session: a collision with Hitech team-mate Ralf Aron has resulted in the Russian dropping three places and getting three points on his licence; and the exact same penalty has been applied for blocking Pedro Piquet. This relegates him from ninth to 15th.

For race three, Eriksson moves back onto pole from Norris, Ilott (who has had his second-best lap restored), Zhou, Habsburg, Gunther, Aron, Daruvala, Mazepin and Dennis.
