BTCC Donington Park: Ride height check clouds Shedden win

Reigning champion Gordon Shedden won the final race of the British Touring Car Championship meeting at Donington Park - although the results are still provisional after a post-race ride height scare

The race was restarted after an initial attempt to get the event underway was red flagged after a downpour meant several cars skated of the track.

Front row starter Matt Neal (Team Dynamics Honda Civic Type R) was unable to take the resumption as it was deemed he had been given outside assistance to return to the grid.

Neal's Team Dynamics team-mate Shedden said afterwards: "It was all kicking off in the first start and I had damage in the rear for going off so the ride height was clearly off because the car was damaged.

"What can I do? The situation is being looked at by officials."

At the eventual restart, BTC Norlin Chevrolet Cruze polesitter Dave Newsham powered into Redgate corner first, ahead of Colin Turkington (WSR BMW 125i M Sport) and Josh Cook (Maximum Motorsport Ford Focus).

After a brief safety car, fourth-placed Shedden jumped Cook coming out of Hollywood on lap three, and then passed Turkington into McLeans later on during that same lap.

Once into second place, Shedden took two corners to pass Newsham, going into the chicane as the cars went on to lap four.

Turkington also jumped Newsham later on in the race to secure second place.

"It was a great race to get a win in the wet at Donington for BMW," said Turkington, although nor he or Shedden have been confirmed as the race winner with the result still provisional.

"I was on the limit of grip everywhere, the Craner Curves were a real challenge."

Newsham was left to fight with Ash Sutton for third place.

Sutton jumped the Chevrolet but, as Adam Morgan (Ciceley Racing Mercedes-Benz A-Class) joined the battle too.

As the trio fought heartily into the chicane on the last lap, Morgan slipped inside Sutton for second, while Sutton claimed fourth from Newsham.

Tom Ingram carried 75kg of ballast in his Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis to grab sixth place.

He fended off Eurotech Racing's Jack Goff (Honda Civic) and Cook.

Aiden Moffat (Laser Tools Racing Mercedes-Benz A-Class) and Aron Taylor-Smith (Triple Eight MG6) rounded out the top 10.
