Donington Park BTCC: Jack Goff leads practice in Eurotech Honda

Eurotech Racing Honda Civic Type R driver Jack Goff set the fastest time over the two British Touring Car Championship free practice sessions at Donington Park

The 26-year-old was one of five drivers who set a sub-1m10s lap. He clocked the best time shortly before the end of the second 40-minute period.

"I am very happy with that," said Goff.

"I am particularly happy now that I have seen the time - I misheard the radio message and I thought it was 0.4s off, which I was perplexed about. Then when I came in I saw the actual time and I was relieved!

"There is still work to be done on the car and I have faith in the boys at Eurotech.

"We will go even better in qualifying, so I am very optimistic."

Just 0.007s adrift of Goff's time was the Team Hard VW CC of Jake Hill, which had also been third fastest in the morning session to cap a competitive start for the Kent racer.

Tom Ingram placed third in his Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis, despite the 66kg of success ballast he was carrying on the car as he is in second place in the points.

Matt Neal placed fourth with a 1m09.916s lap in his Team Dynamics Honda Civic Type R.

The last driver in the sub-1m10s bracket was Rob Austin in the Handy Motorsport Toyota Avensis. Austin, who recorded a 1m09.978s lap, had also topped the morning's running.

Championship leader Gordon Shedden was seventh in the second Dynamics Honda with a 1m10.212s lap.

The leading factory BMW was double champion Colin Turkington, in 15th place in the 125i M Sport.

James Cole was the fastest of the works Subaru Levorg GT cars, placing his Team BMR machine in 19th place.

Tom Chilton was the top factory blessed, Power Maxed Racing-run Vauxhall Astra in 20th position.

Brands Hatch polesitter Jeff Smith was 13th. He left the session immediately to get a helicopter to Oulton Park, where he is qualifying for Bank Holiday Monday's race in the Mini Challenge.

The Mini session finishes at 3pm and he will then fly back to Donington to tackle BTCC qualifying - which starts 40 minutes later.
