Long Beach IndyCar: Power leads second practice for Penske
Will Power led the way in second practice for the second round of the 2017 IndyCar season at Long Beach
The Penske racer set a time of 1m07.0800s on the softer Firestone tyres to finish 0.2776 seconds ahead of Marco Andretti and team-mate Simon Pagenaud.
The 45-minute session looked set to be an uneventful one until a short red-flag period in the final eight minutes, caused when Ganassi's Tony Kanaan locked up at Turn 1 and stalled after completing a U-turn.
Takuma Sato jumped up to fourth late ahead of Andretti Autosport team-mate Ryan Hunter-Reay and Penske's Helio Castroneves, who also improved using the soft rubber.
Winner of the season opener at St Petersburg, Dale Coyne Racing's Sebastien Bourdais was seventh.
Scott Dixon moved to the top with 28 minutes remaining but did not improve on that time of 1m07.7147s, slipping to eighth at the end of the session to break the Ganassi driver's streak of leading three-straight practice sessions.
JR Hildebrand and James Hinchcliffe completed the top 10, ahead of last year's Indianapolis 500 winner Alexander Rossi.
Ganassi's Max Chilton again appeared to struggle after apparent electrical problems in first practice, finishing as the slowest of the 21 drivers, 2.2905s off the pace set by Power.
