Foyt IndyCar team adds Indy Lights' Veach to 2017 Indy 500 line-up

Long-time Indy Lights frontrunner Zach Veach is set to make his IndyCar Series debut in a third AJ Foyt Racing entry at the Indianapolis 500

The 22-year-old American joins full-season drivers Conor Daly and Carlos Munoz in the team's additional Dallara-Chevrolet.

"To compete in the Indianapolis 500 is a dream I've had since I was four years old, so when the opportunity came about I was ecstatic," Veach said.

Veach was third in his second full season of Lights in 2014 and after a year on the sidelines returned last year and took fourth in the standings.

Team president Larry Foyt added: "Zach Veach is one of those drivers who has proven he deserves the opportunity by winning through the Mazda Road to Indy series, and he has put in massive effort to get to this level".

Foyt used IndyCar veteran Alex Tagliani (pictured below) as its additional driver for both the Indy 500 and the venue's road course race last year.

Other drivers announced for teams' additional entries at the Indy 500 so far include Juan Pablo Montoya in the fifth Penske car and Oriol Servia with Rahal Letterman Lanigan.

Jay Howard and Pippa Mann return in third entries for Schmidt Peterson Motorsport and Dale Coyne Racing respectively.

Former series regular Dreyer & Reinbold will rejoin the field for Indy with Sage Karam, while leading Road to Indy squad Juncos Racing is planning an IndyCar debut at the 500 with the equipment it acquired from KV Racing Technology and an as-yet unnamed driver.

Andretti Autosport plans to add a fifth car for Indy but is also yet to announce who will drive it.
