Moffat wants BTCC to look into wheel problems after FP1 detachment

British Touring Car Championship racer Aiden Moffat has urged officials to look again into a problem with wheels coming off cars after an incident during first practice at Brands Hatch

The Scot was inside the top 10 when he plunged into the Clearways gravel and caused a red flag to halt the opening free practice in his Laser Tools Racing Mercedes-Benz A-Class.

Sources suggest that there have been a number of problems with cars over the testing period, and BTCC officials have issued new parts to aim to solve the problem.

"I had some bad understeer, and then my front left wheel overtook me," said Moffat.

"This is a problem that a lot of people have suffered from in testing, and you would have thought something would have been done about it by now.

"We can't come to a race meeting and still have this happen. These things are happening through no fault of our own."

Series director Alan Gow said that modification had been made to some components and the teams had been advised of an alteration to the torque procedure on the wheels.

They were issued to the teams last week.

Gow said: "There were some teams having issues, and we have made some alterations to the processes and parts as a result of that.

"Wheels come off racing cars all the time and they come off for all kinds of reasons. This is not necessarily linked."
