BTCC Brands Hatch: Speedworks driver Ingram leads first practice

Tom Ingram topped the timesheets in the opening free practice session for the British Touring Car Championship curtain-rasier at Brands Hatch this weekend

The Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis driver slotted into prime position after 20 minutes of the session and remained there throughout.

He clocked a 48.164s, which put him just over one tenth of a second clear of the WSR BMW 125i M Sport of Rob Collard - who left it late before attempting his faster runs.

Ingram, who also topped the timesheets at the season's official pre-season test day at Donington Park two weeks ago, said: "It is nice to be fastest, but it doesn't mean anything just yet.

"We were looking for a balance from the car and we found a good one.

"I think the pole time will be well inside the 47s bracket though, so there is still a chunk of time to find. But we are in a good place."

Andrew Jordan was third in his WSR BMW 125i M Sport, again leaving it late to set his lap time, while early pacesetter Adam Morgan was fourth in in the Ciceley Racing Mercedes-Benz A-CLass.

Reigning champion Gordon Shedden wsa fifth in his Team Dynamics Honda Civic Type-R from the third WSR BMW of Colin Turkington and Ash Sutton's Team BMR Subaru Levorg.

Jack Goff (Eurotech Racing Honda Civic Type-R), the MG6 of Aron Taylor-Smith and the Handy Motorsport Toyota Avensis of Rob Austin completed the top 10.
