Less pressure with Turkington as WSR team-mate in BTCC, says Jordan

Andrew Jordan believes fellow British Touring Car champion Colin Turkington's deal to join him at the WSR BMW team reduces the pressure on him

Turkington has moved back to WSR, with which he has taken both his BTCC titles, and joins Jordan, who moves over from the Motorbase Ford squad for 2017.

Ten things to watch in the 2017 BTCC

Jordan believes that, in his first season of rear-wheel-drive machinery in the BTCC, having Turkington in the team will ease the spotlight on his own learning curve.

"In British Touring Cars he is the man in rear-wheel drive, so of course he is going to be quick," Jordan told Autosport.

"If anything I feel less pressure with him signing, it's a win-win for me.

"If I go to Brands Indy and I outqualify him everyone will be, 'bloody hell'. If he outqualifies me, well, he's the RWD specialist."

Having started testing with WSR before the New Year, Jordan believes the duo can work together to drive the BMW 125i M Sport forward.

"I like Colin a lot and I've got huge respect for him," added the 27-year-old.

"I look at team-mates and look at how [Honda drivers] Gordon Shedden and Matt Neal work on track. By far they are the best team-mates working together.

"I think me and Colin can work very well together. He seems a normal guy and I think we'll be able to trust each other.

"I'd be surprised if we can't develop a really good working relationship.

"Having Colin there as well means there is some good data, so it's good to have another drive like that I can look at."

Jordan feels WSR could give him the best chance of winning the BTCC title since his successful 2013 campaign.

"We were at WSR showing a sponsor around and it's next-level stuff," he said.

"The development and engineering staff they've got, it's a big project, they put the work in.

"There is not one bit of me that worries 'I hope the car's quick'.

"When was the last time they or [works Honda team] Dynamics rolled a slow car out? They've really impressed me."

One disadvantage for WSR is the lack of running the team has with the new B48 BMW powerplant.

Only Rob Collard used the engine at the media day test at Donington Park, going 12th fastest. Turkington and Jordan were 13th and 21st respectively.
