Suzuki's Rins a doubt for MotoGP Argentina after motocross crash

Alex Rins, Suzuki

Suzuki MotoGP rookie Alex Rins is in doubt for the second round of the season in Argentina, after suffering a partial fracture in his right ankle in a motocross crash.

Rins fell from a motocross bike while training near his home in Andorra on Wednesday, injuring the talus bone joining the foot and ankle.

Initial CT scans in Barcelona diagnosed a small fracture within the heavily-swollen joint, with a check-up scheduled for Monday, before he would have been due to fly to Argentina for next weekend's grand prix.

Suzuki confirmed Rins has a "partial fracture of the right talus, without displacement, but with bone edema (swelling)".

He will not require surgery, with magnotherapy and physiotherapy deemed sufficient.

The bone at the base of the tibia would come under further stress on a MotoGP bike, when Rins uses the rear brake.

Rins finished as the top rookie in MotoGP's Qatar season opener, beating Tech3 Yamaha's Jonas Folger to ninth place.

The Spaniard's time with Suzuki started with an injury setback, when he suffered two compressed vertebrae on his first day of testing at Valencia last November.
