McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner Norris leads European F3 test
McLaren Autosport BRDC Award winner Lando Norris set the pace on the opening day of official testing for the Formula 3 European Championship at the Hungaroring
The McLaren Formula 1 junior's time was set in the morning session, which he topped by 0.343 seconds in his Carlin Dallara-Volkswagen.
Norris's fellow rookie Joey Mawson set the pace in the generally quicker afternoon session, but the Australian still fell 0.059s short of the Briton's morning pace.
Carlin dominated the morning session, with Norris followed by team-mates Jake Dennis - who has been drafted in for the four days of pre-season testing but has no race deal confirmed - and Jehan Daruvala.
Dennis was top for a substantial part of the afternoon session, before Mawson pulled a quick one out of his Van Amersfoort Racing Dallara-Mercedes.
Motopark's Joel Eriksson was fourth in the morning and third in the afternoon, while VAR's Harrison Newey was sixth in the morning and fifth later on.
Another VAR driver, Pedro Piquet, came on strong later in the day and set the same time as Eriksson.
The Prema Powerteam trio of Maximilian Gunther, Callum Ilott and Guan Yu Zhou were all in the top 10 in the afternoon session - they were separated by less than a tenth, with Mick Schumacher a further couple of tenths adrift.
It was generally a trouble-free day, although gearbox problems meant Motopark's Marino Sato managed only a few laps.
