DTM racer Jamie Green adds WRT Audi GT races to his 2017 schedule

Audi DTM star Jamie Green will race a GT car for the German manufacturer in a short programme of events including the Spa 24 Hours in 2017

The 34-year-old Briton, who finished third in last year's DTM, will race for the Belgian WRT squad in three rounds of the Blancpain GT Series.

Green will take the place of Robin Frijns in WRT's line-up of Audi R8 LMS GT3 cars when the Dutchman is racing in Formula E with the Andretti team.

He will drive at the BGTS Sprint Cup round at Misano at the start of next month and then in the Endurance Cup events at Silverstone and Spa in May and July respectively.

Green will drive alongside Stuart Leonard at Misano and then form part of an all-British line-up with fellow GT newcomer Jake Dennis and Leonard in the two long races.

WRT boss Vincent Vosse told Autosport: "Jamie is probably the only Audi driver I didn't know, but I did know how good he is.

"I was talking to a few drivers, but and after two days of testing at Misano this week, I know it was the right decision to take Jamie."

Dennis, 21, is moving into the BGTS after taking his first steps in sportscar racing last year with the Jota Sport LMP2 team at the Spa and Le Mans 24 Hours World Endurance Championship rounds.

As well as contesting the enduros, Dennis will race in the Sprint Cup together with Pieter Schothorst, winner of last year's Renault Sport Trophy for the RS01 one-make racer.

Vosse revealed he had been impressed by Dennis in testing.

"He hadn't driven a GT car before, but he definitely knew what he was doing," he said.

Three-time Le Mans winner Benoit Treluyer will race in the BGTS enduros in the wake of Audi's withdrawal from the WEC.

The Frenchman, who raced for WRT at the 2014 Spa 24 Hours, will share a car with Stephane Richelmi and Nathanael Berthon.

Treluyer's long-time LMP1 team-mate Marcel Fassler will drive with WRT in both the segments of the BGTS.

The Swiss will share with ex-Formula 1 driver Will Stevens and Markus Winkelhock in the Endurance Cup and with Dries Vanthoor in the sprints.

Reigning Sprint Cup champion Enzo Ide will defend his title with Christopher Mies, his partner in four of the five races last year.

Another Briton in Josh Caygill has also joined WRT for 2017. The graduate of the Audi Sport TT Cup will race in the Endurance Cup with Niki Mayr-Melnhof and Jonathan Venter.
