BTCC Rockingham: Turkington tops practice as Tordoff struggles

Team BMR driver Colin Turkington set the pace in the two British Touring Car Championship practice sessions at Rockingham, as points leader Sam Tordoff struggled

Turkington set the fastest time in his Subaru Levorg the second session with a 1m22.914 seconds tour, and headed Tom Ingram's Toyota and Matt Neal's Honda.

But championship leader Tordoff could only manage the 21st fastest time over the two free practice sessions after struggling at Rockingham.

The WSR BMW 125i M Sport driver went off on his first flying lap in the opening 40-minute session, and then quickly cycled through set-up work in the second period.

"I went off in session one because the brake bias had been set wrong," said the 27-year-old.

"As soon as I touched the brakes, the car snapped sideways and I was in proper Ken Block-style Hoonigan mode before I went in to the gravel."

Tordoff was unable to complete any more laps in that session, but returned in the second and completed 19 laps.

Andrew Jordan headed the times in the opening period with a 1m23.045s from Ingram and Adam Morgan (Meredes-Benz A-Class).

Rob Collard, who is second in the points in his WSR BMW 125i M Sport, was 19th in the opening session before improving to 10th in session two.

Subaru's Jason Plato failed to finish the second session after he went off in his Team BMR car and damaged the sump after only four laps.
