Indianapolis 500: Pagenaud fastest before Hinchcliffe crash
Simon Pagenaud was fastest in an Indianapolis 500 practice session shortened by James Hinchcliffe's crash on Monday
The Penske driver secured the top spot with a fastest lap of 225.260mph, putting him just a fraction ahead of Justin Wilson (225.256mph) and Will Power (225.196mph).
Alex Tagliani and Oriol Servia rounded out the top five.
Series officials ordered the cars back to the pits in the wake of Hinchcliffe's 222mph accident, with unofficial reports suggesting that the SAFER barrier at Turn 3 needed to be repaired before cars could return to the track.
However, an hour later the session was officially ended without any additional laps being run.
The track is scheduled to be reopened for an Indy Lights practice session later in the afternoon.
Monday's running was the final practice outing before Carb Day on Friday.
