BRDC Formula 4 graduate Hyman to European Formula 3 with West-Tec

BRDC Formula 4 ace Raoul Hyman is a last-minute addition to the grid for the Formula 3 European Championship, which kicks off at Silverstone on April 10-12

The 18-year-old South African has joined British squad Team West-Tec, where he will partner German Fabian Schiller.

Hyman has spent much of his pre-season testing with Formula Renault Northern European Cup teams, but has made the move to F3 after two days at the wheel of a West-Tec Dallara-Mercedes at Snetterton earlier this week.

"F3 makes perfect sense in light of the FIA's new superlicence rules," said the first-year law student.

"I am very pleased to have signed with Team West-Tec, and believe that they have the engineering depth, experience and passion to help me challenge at the front."

Team boss John Miller added: "We now have a very competitive line-up and I'm looking forward to seeing Raoul up on the podium, which I'm sure he can achieve."

Hyman's graduation means that each of last year's BRDC F4 top three - George Russell, Arjun Maini and Hyman - have vaulted straight to European F3, while fifth man Struan Moore is also racing in the category, in the Japanese championship.
