Monte Carlo Rally reveals 2015 changes for new WRC format

The 2015 Monte Carlo Rally will break with tradition and run the legendary Col de Turini stage in daylight as part of a raft of route changes

For the first time since 2008 more than one stage will run on the Sunday (January 25) as the crews tackle the Col st Jean-St Laurent test twice, with the full-length Turini stage (La Bollene-Sospel at 19.67 miles) in the middle.

If the FIA World Motor Sport Council passes WRC Promoter's proposed revisions to the final day of World Rally Championship rounds, the Col st Jean stage will be the first Powerstage to run under the new regulations.

The pressures of running that inaugural new-format Powerstage are privately accepted as part of the reason for the change to the Monte itinerary.

For the last two years, one or both of the final two stages have had to be cancelled due to the conditions, an outcome that would not be desirable with an intense spotlight on the planned 2015 WRC revamp.

Next year's Monte will run between Monaco and Gap. After a start in the principality on Thursday January 22, the crews will tackle two stages in the dark on the way up to an overnight stop in Gap.

The next two days of competition are centred around Gap before the drivers head south via the Sisteron stage on Saturday afternoon to arrive back in Monte Carlo in the evening.

Sunday's final morning loop is followed by a traditional podium celebration outside the palace.
