Chicagoland NASCAR: Rain hands Kyle Busch pole for Joe Gibbs Toyota
Rain forced the cancellation of Friday's NASCAR Sprint Cup qualifying session at Chicagoland, handing Kyle Busch pole position by virtue of having set the fastest time in practice
Busch was fastest on Friday morning at 28.207 seconds and 191.442mph to take the top spot for Joe Gibbs Racing, with Ryan Newman, Carl Edwards, Ricky Stenhouse Jr and Matt Kenseth filling out the places immediately behind him.
The race marks the beginning of the 10-round Chase that will decide the 2014 champion, with all of the top five starters aside from Stenhouse having qualified for the title runoff.
Penske duo Brad Keselowski and Joey Logano face a more difficult race after a subdued practice session left them 25th and 28th respectively.
The remaining Chase participants are scattered all the way through the grid, with Jimmie Johnson starting from seventh, Jeff Gordon eighth, Kevin Harvick 12th, Dale Earnhardt Jr 13th, Kurt Busch 14th, AJ Allmendinger 17th, Kasey Kahne 19th, Greg Biffle 20th, Aric Almirola 23rd, and Denny Hamlin 24th.
