HTP to field third Mercedes in Slovakia Ring Blancpain Sprint round

A third entry from the HTP Mercedes squad will help boost the Blancpain Sprint Series grid to a season's high at the Slovakia Ring this weekend

HTP Motorsport has entered a third Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG for team regulars Lucas Wolf and Luca Stolz in the Silver Cup class for silver-rated drivers under 25 alongside its two full-time entries.

The extra HTP car, together with the return of Alex Zanardi in his ROAL Motorsport BMW Z4 and an entry for a Mercedes in the Pro-Am class from former FIA GT1 World Championship-winning team Munnich Motorsport, brings the entry to 22 cars.

That is two more than have been on the entry list at each of the previous three rounds.

Fortec Motorsport has one of its Mercedes confirmed for Miguel Toril and Armaan Ebrahim, while it is still working to put its second car on the grid for the first time since the Nogaro season opener in April.

An entry for an AF Corse Ferrari has failed to materialise.

HTP team boss Norbert Bruckner explained that the additional Mercedes was confirmed for the next two rounds of the series.

"We would like to make it permanent, but at the moment it is only confirmed for the Slovakia Ring and the Algarve race [in September]," he said.

He explained that the entry was designed to give 19-year-old Wolf, who was rested by the team for last month's Spa 24 Hours Blancpain Endurance Series round, more experience and to give Stolz, who drives with the team in ADAC GT Masters, his first taste of international GT racing.

The Munnich Mercedes will be driven by team owner and World Touring Car Championship driver Rene Munnich. His team-mate has yet to be nominated.

Chris van der Drift returns to the Bhaitech team with which he raced in International GT Open last year.

He has replaced Daniel Lloyd, who has parted company with the team citing its lack of results.
