Ex-European Rallycross champion Isachsen joins World RX for Canada

Three-time European Rallycross champion Sverre Isachsen will race at the seventh round of the World Rallycross Championship in Trois-Rivieres in Canada next week

The Norwegian will drive the Subaru Rally Team USA Impreza that he uses in the American-based Global Rallycross Championship, where he finished second last time out at Charlotte to Gymkhana star Ken Block, who is also making selected appearances in the world series this season.

Isachsen was the last driver to beat reigning European rallycross champion Timur Timerzyanov to a crown, winning his three consecutive titles at the wheel of a Ford Focus from 2009-11, before moving to compete in America.

"I'm very excited for Canada and to compete again against some of the same teams and under the same race format from my years in Europe," said Isachsen.

"We have put so much effort into developing the Subaru from scratch into something very competitive now. I hope for a good result."

Lance Smith, owner of the Vermont Sportscar operation that runs Subaru's American motorsport programme, said he was intrigued to see how his squad compares to the world championship teams.

"World RX of Canada is nearly in our backyard and we saw it as a great opportunity to gain further experience while testing our metal against another set of talented drivers and teams," said Smith.

"Although ultimately built to a different series' rule set, Sverre's car was generally built around the FIA regulations, so it will not be too difficult for us to enter."

The event in Canada features 19 entrants, including Finnish driver Joni Wiman, who will drive the OlsbergsMSE Ford Fiesta he uses in the GRC.
