Bentley plans to enter Nurburgring 24 Hours in 2015

Bentley is planning to take its Continental GT3 racer to the Nurburgring 24 Hours next year

The British manufacturer, which is undertaking its first full season of racing with the Continental developed by M-Sport this year, announced its intention to field a factory team at the event on the Nurburgring-Nordschleife ahead of the 2014 race this weekend.

Bentley board member for engineering Rolf Frech, said: "We've been looking to compete at the Nurburgring ever since we announced our return to racing in 2012, but we knew that we had to develop and prove the capabilities of our Continental GT3 first.

"The 24-hour race at the Nurburgring is one of the toughest, but with our season of learning in 2014 and with the Continental GT3 already being a race winner [at the Silverstone Blancpain Endurance Series round last month], we feel confident in targeting the event for 2015."

A statement from Bentley also revealed that the company was also considering other races alongside its Nurburgring assault and a continued presence in the BES.

The M-Sport factory Bentley team will undertake its first twice-around-the-clock sportscar race later this month with an attack on the Spa 24 Hours, which is the blue-riband round of the BES.

A Bentley will make a first start in North America since the Le Mans 24 Hours-winning Speed 8 raced at the 2003 Sebring 12 Hours.

Dyson Racing, Bentley's first customer in the US, will field a solo Continental in the Pirelli World Challenge event at Road America for Butch Leitzinger.
