Texas IndyCar: Scott Dixon leads night practice

Scott Dixon led a Ganassi 1-2-3 in the Friday evening practice session for this weekend's IndyCar race at Texas Motor Speedway

Dixon and Tony Kanaan worked together early on, and their respective best laps of 213.215mph/213.187mph gave them a lockout of the top two places on the timesheets that stood until the end of the session.

Ryan Briscoe went to third with his final lap, knocking compatriot Will Power back to fourth, with Ed Carpenter rounding out the top five.

With just one yellow flag for a track inspection, the session marked the end of a day completed incident-free, with the only real blip coming when Helio Castroneves was parked for the final four minutes after missing the mandatory weigh-in. The Brazilian still managed to finish seventh-fastest behind Penske team-mate Juan Pablo Montoya.

Sebastien Bourdais's session ended even earlier; the Frenchman's car returning to the KV garage with eight minutes still to run due to an apparent mechanical or handling problem.

As with Castroneves, the premature exit did not excessively penalise his final position: Bourdais finished the evening 12th-fastest, six places ahead of where he qualified.
