Mugello MotoGP: rain disrupts second free practice
Michele Pirro emerged fastest as poor weather at Mugello meant a dearth of action in second MotoGP practice
Pre-session rain created tricky track conditions, leading to a largely uneventful 45 minutes as riders were reluctant to explore the Tuscan circuit.
It was left to likes of Ducati duo Pirro and Andrea Dovizioso, Le Mans podium finisher Alvaro Bautista and Pramac's Yonny Hernandez to provide anything in the way of entertainment as they tiptoed around on their exploratory laps.
With conditions worsening in the final five minutes, Nicky Hayden was the first to set a flying lap with a time of 2m11.660s before making further gains and whittling it down to 2m07.067s.
His spell at the top of the order was short lived, however, as wild card entrant Pirro went 1.632s quicker at the end of the session to go overall quickest.
Bautista was 3.718s off the ultimate pace and Hiroshi Aoyama, who was the only other rider to set a time, finished in fourth position.
