Teenager Matt McMurry gets Silverstone Greaves ELMS LMP2 chance

Sixteen-year-old Matt McMurry will contest the Silverstone European Le Mans Series opener as the next step in his quest to become the Le Mans 24 Hours' youngest competitor

McMurry, son of US sportscar regular Chris, has been confirmed in the lead Greaves Motorsport Zytek-Nissan Z11SN for the Silverstone race on April 19 after coming through an evaluation test with the team at Paul Ricard last week.

If Silverstone goes according to plan, McMurry will then race at the second ELMS round at Imola in May.

The Italian event will be used as the final evaluation ahead of the 24 Hours in June.

Team owner Tim Greaves said: "We're taking it one step at a time; Matt is going through a learning programme.

"He tested for us at Kershaw [in North Carolina] and was very quick and then did very well at Ricard.

"Matt seems very sensible for a 16-year-old, so the plan and hope is that he will be on the grid at Le Mans."

McMurry, who started racing in 2012, said: "I feel well prepared to take on the next challenge

"I couldn't be more appreciative and honoured to join the team at Silverstone, and I look forward to rewarding everyone with everything I've got."

The American will share the Zytek at Silverstone with team regular Tom Kimber-Smith and Chris Dyson, who has launched the Dyson Racing junior development programme with McMurry as its first driver.

McMurry is bidding to break Ricardo Rodriguez's record as the youngest participant in the 24 Hours at Le Mans.

WALKER FOR SECOND GREAVES CAR

The second Greaves Zytek will be raced at Silverstone by World Endurance Championship LMP2 race winner James Walker and Radical European Masters SR8 champions James Littlejohn and Tony Wells.

Littlejohn and Wells have signed up for Silverstone on a one-off basis after sampling the second Greaves Zytek at Ricard.

Walker has been brought into the line-up for Silverstone "to add some experience", according to Greaves.

Walker said: "I'll be in at the deep end again, because there's no chance to test the car.

"But it's good to be back in the ELMS where I started out in sportscars [with the JMW Ferrari team in 2011-12]."

Littlejohn, Wells, and potentially, Walker could continue for the remainder of the series.

Greaves will have a different line-up in its second car at Le Mans should it move up from the reserve list to the full entry list.
