Vaxiviere to dovetail FR3.5 season with full Porsche WEC programme
Formula Renault 3.5 newcomer Matthieu Vaxiviere will dovetail his single-seater season with a full programme in the World Endurance Championship
The 19-year-old Frenchman, who is moving up to FR3.5 from Formula Renault Eurocup and ALPs with the Charouz-run Lotus team, will race for the ProSpeed Porsche GTE Am squad alongside Emmanuel Collard and Francois Perrodo.
The drive in the Belgian team's 997-shape 911 GT3-RSR has come courtesy of European Le Mans Series graduate Perrodo, who has helped back Vaxiviere's single-seater programmes.
ProSpeed boss Rudi Penders said: "We needed a good silver-rated driver, so it made sense to bring in Matthieu, because the silver driver will make the difference in GTE Am."
Vaxiviere said that he hoped that the drive would create opportunities in sportscar racing should he fail in his ambition to reach Formula 1.
"It will be a nice year with a dual programme and the WEC for me is a good opportunity because now endurance [racing] is coming very strong," he said.
"The objective is go F1, but if it not possible, I want to open some doors in the WEC and endurance racing."
Vaxiviere has to overcome the problem of a clash between the Spa FR3.5 round and the Le Mans test day, in which he must take part as a race rookie.
