Carlin signs Ed Jones for 2014 European F3 campaign
Carlin has signed reigning Formula 3 Open champion Ed Jones for its 2014 European F3 campaign
The Dubai-based 18-year-old, who claimed six wins and 10 podiums in that title-winning season, is the team's first appointment.
He made his Euro F3 debut with Fortec last year at Hockenheim, and also competed in select Formula Renault 2.0 NEC and Euro races.
Team boss Trevor Carlin said Jones had impressed the team both during the season and when testing for the team at the end of the last year.
"As reigning Formula 3 Open Champion Ed clearly has the pace to run at the front," Carlin said.
"He tested with us before Christmas and we were very pleased with his progress over that short time - his feedback as well as his pace was very impressive.
"He settled into the team well and I've no doubt that he will be a real asset in 2014."
Jones said he was excited to build upon that early test, adding: "Carlin have a fantastic reputation in Formula 3 and it is very exciting to be joining the team for the 2014 season.
"I completed several days testing with the team before Christmas and really enjoyed driving the car.
"I can't wait to get on track for the first official test and build on our progress over the winter."
Van Amersfoort Racing has meanwhile signed 19-year-old Gustavo Menezes for 2014.
The American finished second in the rookie fight and fourth overall in German F3 last year, winning twice and claiming eight podiums
