Dan Wells joins Carlin for Valencia Formula 3 test
Hong Kong-based Briton Dan Wells is to test with top Formula 3 team Carlin next week as he prepares for a programme in Japanese F3 in 2014
Wells will run for three days at Valencia in the Carlin Dallara F308 that Carlos Sainz Jr took to a double win in the MSV F3 Cup round at Snetterton in October.
After racing in Formula Renault UK in 2011, Wells moved east last year and took second in the Formula Pilota China series behind 2013 British F3 runner-up Antonio Giovinazzi.
Wells sat out most of 2013, but returned with two late-season outings in Formula Masters China - the successor to FPC - and finished second in Macau (pictured, centre).
Wells, whose investment group is chaired by ex-Jordan F1 commercial chief Ian Phillips, said: "To be given the opportunity to test with Carlin on my debut F3 outing is pretty special.
"Carlin are one of the biggest teams outside Formula 1, with a tremendous history, so I'm really looking forward to getting out on track and seeing what I can deliver.
"My aim now is to ensure that we have the right preparation time in a car before heading to Japan to mount a championship challenge in 2014."
Wells is aiming to compete in Japanese F3 with KCMG, which also runs teams in Superformula and the Asian Le Mans Series, and contested this year's Le Mans 24 Hours.
