GP3 expands calendar for 2014 as Russia and Austria join dates

The GP3 Series calendar will increase to nine rounds for the 2014 season, organisers announced on Friday

Like GP2, the GP3 schedule will feature Russia and Austria as new venues.

The standalone Valencia round drops out of the series, meaning all GP3 races are part of the Formula 1 support bill again.

Barcelona will kick off the season on May 9, and Abu Dhabi's Yas Marina track will close it on November 23.

GP3 teams will have three pre-season tests, starting at Estoril (27-28 March) and followed by Jerez (10-11 April) and at Barcelona (April 16-17).

"GP3 is going into its fifth season of existence with three of its champions already racing in Formula 1," said series boss Bruno Michel.

"I am very pleased to announce that all of this year's events will be held during a Formula 1 grand prix.

"The 2014 GP3 calendar is a fantastic opportunity for all of our young drivers to display their talent in front of the F1 and GP2 paddocks and to learn F1 tracks."
