Tom Coronel fears 2013 his last year in World Touring Cars

Tom Coronel fears 2013 will prove to be his final season in the World Touring Car Championship

The series' ushering in of new regulations means the cost of competing has increased while the number of available, competitive drives has dwindled.

Coronel fears that dynamic could force him out and end his involvement in a series in which he has competed since the inaugural 2005 season, racking up 201 appearances, four victories and 20 podiums.

The last of those came in the season finale on the streets of Macau - which Coronel says could be his final WTCC race.

"Next year seems very difficult," he told AUTOSPORT.

"Normally there is always a solution, but this is the first time I have that feeling in my gut that I am in the shit.

"OK my girlfriend tells me I say this every year, and there is always a chance - people always buy lottery tickets - but I don't really have the budget.

"Look at my CV, who can match it? I just need that chance; I just need a car I can win in."

Coronel was the only BMW driver to triumph this season, and he says his two wins are evidence he deserves a spot in 2014.

"I showed the potential at the right moment, and I have to capitalise on the flow," he added.

"But let's wait and see. As they say, money talks, bullshit walks."
