Leading Formula Ford team Falcon aims for British Formula 3 in 2014

Leading Formula Ford team Falcon Motorsport is planning a step up to British Formula 3 in 2014

Falcon, which ran Harrison Scott to the runner-up spot in this season's British Formula Ford Championship, hopes to field a two-car team in F3 alongside its FFord operation.

Team boss Nick Streatfield told AUTOSPORT: "We are looking at it very seriously and we're talking to a couple of drivers.

"It's by no means done and dusted, but I see it as a sensible route for drivers coming out of our Formula Ford team."

Streatfield added that the team would likely choose the Dallara F308 chassis with Mercedes power for the move, which he said has been facilitated by British F3's revamp to offer cheaper competition.

British F3 returns to UK roots for 2014

"British F3 has always been a great championship but the costs got out of hand," he said.

"Now seems the right opportunity to come in. I don't underestimate going head to head with the Carlins and Fortecs of this world, but we hope to enter with a good driver pairing."

Streatfield said that his Oxfordshire-based team has set a target of early January to bring the programme together.
