Abu Dhabi GP2: James Calado out of title fight after penalty

Calado hit by grid penalty

James Calado's 2013 GP2 title hopes are over after he was hit with a five-place grid penalty for Saturday's crucial Abu Dhabi feature race.

ART racer Calado was penalised for forcing Tom Dillmann off the circuit during GP2 practice this morning.

The move was in retaliation for him feeling that the Russian Time driver had held him up. Dillmann is team-mate to another title contender, Sam Bird.

The decision was taken while he was driving for Force India in Formula 1 free practice.

Calado had to take pole position in Friday afternoon's qualifying session to have any chance of winning the GP2 title, as he required the four points for pole to keep his slender hopes alive.

The bonus points are applied for securing pole itself rather than being fastest in the qualifying session, so they cannot be earned by any driver with a grid penalty.
