Hockenheim European F3: Marciello claims title as Rosenqvist wins again
Ferrari protege Raffaele Marciello wrapped up the Formula 3 European Championship by finishing fourth in race two at Hockenheim, despite title rival Felix Rosenqvist winning the race
Marciello started the race second in his Prema Powerteam Dallara-Mercedes and ran third during the early stages after being beaten into Turn 1 by team-mate Alex Lynn.
While Lynn stuck with Rosenqvist initially, he soon fell back from the Mucke Motorsport man, who did all he could to keep the title fight alive with a three-second victory - his 10th of the season.
So comfortable was Marciello's position that he even let fellow Prema driver Lucas Auer through for the final podium spot before the end, safe in the knowledge that fourth would be enough.
Harry Tincknell was again the best of the Volkswagen-powered drivers in fifth for Carlin with Sven Muller right behind him for Van Amersfoort Racing.
Antonio Giovinazzi continued his impressive weekend's work with a career-best seventh spot - Double R's best result of the year in European F3.
Jordan King, Dennis van de Laar and Eddie Cheever completed the top 10, the latter passing Pipo Derani for the spot during the early stages of the race.
Felix Serralles and Kevin Korjus were both given drive-through penalties for exceeding track limits, and found themselves racing together afterwards.
Their battle came to a head on lap 15 when the pair collided heading towards the Spitzkehre, causing significant rear-end damage to the Estonian's T-Sport car and forcing it to retire on the asphalt run-off.
Fortec driver Serralles, who ran wide onto the same piece of track, then hit the stationary car as he began to accelerate out of run-off and launched it into the air. The Puerto Rican then became airborne himself as he drove over a Ludwig kerb on his way back to the track.
