BTCC stars hail new champion Andrew Jordan
British Touring Car stars Jason Plato, Matt Neal and Gordon Shedden have hailed Andrew Jordan as a worthy champion this season
Jordan secured his first overall BTCC crown by taking his Eurotech Honda Civic to ninth in the Brands Hatch GP finale, beating Shedden by seven points.
Works/Dynamics Honda driver Shedden, who took his first title last season, said: "It's fantastic for Andy, for [Andy's father and team boss] Mike Jordan and Eurotech. They've worked hard for it.
"Five DNFs was just too much for us, particularly when you consider that we didn't finish that far behind. We've got to raise our game and try to go one better next year."
Plato, who took two wins at Brands and ended up third in the points, said: "He's done a brilliant year and is a very worthy champion.
"The points gap [49] was too big for us. The pace has been there, but we've had too many non-finishes."
Neal was knocked out of the title hunt after a clash with Jordan in race two at Brands, and ended the race with a turbo fire. But he too praised Jordan.
"I'm ecstatic for Andy," said the triple champion. "I know what it feels like to win it with your dad - you can't buy that."
Jordan also retained his Independents' crown. He has 10 BTCC race wins, six of them scored this year.
