Silverstone MotoGP: Jorge Lorenzo says British GP not win or bust
Jorge Lorenzo insists his 2013 MotoGP title defence will not hinge on whether he can triumph in this weekend's British Grand Prix
The Spaniard has slipped to 44 points behind runaway points leader Marc Marquez after a campaign derailed by the collarbone injury he suffered at Assen and aggravated at the Sachsenring.
While Lorenzo would not be able to guarantee himself the title even if he won all of the final seven races, he does not believe Silverstone will be all-important to his title chances.
"I don't have to win this weekend no," he said when asked by AUTOSPORT about his approach to the weekend.
"It is true that now I have not so much to lose, so we are going to try to win. But it is a normal weekend, like any other."
Lorenzo admitted that Yamaha has fallen away from the level needed to win races, but said a turnaround at Silverstone was still possible.
"For this moment we must focus to try and win races and forget the championship," he said.
"We are still not at the level I expect to win a race, but things can change suddenly - maybe even this weekend.
"We don't have to lose the motivation, the will. This is what we are working on right now.
"I tried to win races because that is the only way to recover the points we lose at Assen and the Sachsenring.
"For the moment it is not possible; let's see what happens here."
