New Indy Lights car set for 2015, upgrade planned for 2014

New Indy Lights organiser Andersen Promotions has announced plans for a new car to be introduced during 2015, with an update of the current car to be used during 2014

Several areas of the current Dallara, which has been in action since 2002, will be subject to performance updates next year, with those improvements designed to be applicable to the new car as well in order to control costs.

Dan Andersen, CEO and owner of Andersen Promotions, which will assume responsibility for the licensing and operation of the series from 2014, said that there was not enough time available to prepare a completely new car for next year.

"In an ideal world, we would be debuting a new Indy Lights car next season," he said. "Unfortunately, with our very recent acquisition of the series, there isn't enough time to accomplish this for 2014.

"Safety is paramount, and we also want a race car that is attractive and interesting to drivers worldwide.

"By enhancing the current chassis, bringing in new engine and tyre partners to activate and support the series while also reducing costs and offering strong incentive programs to current and potential teams, we give ourselves time to do the job properly."

Proposals for the new car have been submitted by four manufacturers, with the series anticipating a decision within 90 days. The process is being overseen by former IndyCar vice president of competition Tony Cotman.

The new car is scheduled to make its test debut midway through next year.
