Toronto Indy Lights: Hawksworth takes emphatic victory

The Brit started from pole and never came under serious threat, eventually crossing the line 14.4s ahead of his nearest pursuer.

A mostly processional race was enlivened by the battle for second, which was eventually won by Peter Dempsey.

The Irishman leapt from the rear of the grid up to third at the start, and then spent most of the morning stalking Gabby Chaves.

His job was made easier when Chaves lost second gear, allowing Dempsey to make a pass with a handful of laps remaining.

Points leader Carlos Munoz was fourth, although his result was offset by closest rival Sage Karam finishing a lap down in sixth after contact with Zach Veach on the opening lap.

Andretti driver Veach, who was racing a car borrowed from the rival Schmidt team after crashing in qualifying earlier today, finished an additional lap down in seventh.

Matthew Di Leo was the only driver not to finish the race; the Canadian parking on lap 28 after his car developed an electrical problem.
