MGs dominate first day of BTCC Snetterton test

The works MG squad set the pace on the first day of the official British Touring Car test at Snetterton

Sam Tordoff's MG6 recorded 1m57.534s in the morning session - a fraction faster than Frank Wrathall's 2012 pole time - and only team-mate Jason Plato was able to join him under the 1m58s barrier.

Tordoff then led Plato again in the afternoon session, in which the MGs failed to improve on their earlier times.

In the absence of the works Honda squad, Andrew Jordan's Eurotech-run Civic was MG's closest rival. He was third in both sessions, his 1m58.322s coming in the morning.

Porsche factory GT ace Nick Tandy, driving Motorbase's third NGTC Ford Focus, was one of those to improve in the second session and ended up fourth quickest on his second day in the car.

He was sixth in the morning before recording 1m58.716s late in the afternoon, ending up over a second quicker than regular Motorbase drivers Mat Jackson and Aron Smith.

Croft double race winner Colin Turkington also improved late on and was fifth in WSR's BMW 125i M Sport, but he was more than a second behind Tordoff.

Jack Goff was sixth in one of Team Hard's Vauxhall Insignias, his afternoon effort just pipping team-mate Tom Onslow-Cole's VW Passat time in the morning.

Rob Collard and Nick Foster made it three WSR BMWs in the top 10, the duo being split by Wrathall despite his Dynojet Toyota Avensis only completing a handful of laps in each session.

Eurotech boss and former BTCC racer Mike Jordan also had a run, recording a 2m00.009s in Jeff Smith's Civic to end up 13th.
