Paul Ricard Blancpain: Marc VDS Racing secures pole

Marc VDS Racing Team secured pole position for the third race of the Blancpain Endurance Series at Paul Ricard

In a tightly fought qualifying it was Maxime Martin who set the fastest lap in the final minutes of the session. The Belgian found just enough space on his last lap and jumped from third to first.

The Black Falcon-run Mercedes of Adam Christodoulou was second place overall and first of the Pro-Am class. Third fastest was the HTP Motorsport Mercedes of Alon Day, just three hundredths of a second behind Christodoulou.

Daniel Zampieri was the fastest Ferrari driver in qualifying as he took the Kessel Racing car to fourth overall ahead of the Hexis Racing McLaren of Alvaro Parente.

Starting from second position in the Pro-Am class and sixth overall is the Boutsen Ginion Racing McLaren of Frederic Vervisch and David Dermont.

The fourth row of the grid will see the SMP Racing-run Ferrari of Alexander Skryabin, Alexey Basov and Alessandro Pier Guidi lining up alongside the first of the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3s.

Peter Dumbreck was the fastest driver in the JRM Racing Nissan he shares with Lucas Luhr and Steven Kane.

Reigning Pro-Am Cup champion AF Corse was third in Pro-Am and will start the race from 10th place on the 60-car strong grid for today's event. Andrea Bertolini was just one second slower than Martin's pole time in the third and final qualifying session.

MRS GT Racing's Philipp Eng was the fastest driver in the Gentlemen Trophy. The Austrian's McLaren was three hundredths of a second faster than the second placed SOFREV ASP Ferrari of Jerome Policand.

The two Blancpain Racing Lamborghinis did not go out in the qualifying session and will not take part in the race later this afternoon.

The team announced its decision to withdraw its two cars from the event after the tragic death of Andrea Mame in an accident on the first lap of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo race on Sunday morning.
