Bernstorff replaces Marciello for F3 Masters at Zandvoort
Emil Bernstorff will replace Formula 3 European Championship leader Raffaele Marciello at Prema Powerteam for the category's annual Masters event at Zandvoort next month
The 20-year-old Briton has been a frontrunner in the German F3 Cup this year for the Motopark-run Lotus team.
He took his fourth victory of the season at Lausitz last weekend and lies third in the championship.
Bernstorff was a podium finisher in the Euro Series for the Ma-con team, but did not take part in the Masters as the squad did not enter the event.
He tested for Prema during the winter and has kept close links with the outfit ever since.
"Since I did a test with Prema Powerteam late last year we have had a close dialogue with them," said 2011 McLaren AUTOSPORT BRDC Award finalist.
"I am very happy that I have been given the opportunity to work and race with them at this prestigious event".
Team manager Rene Rosin believes that Bernstorff will be fighting for a top result at the Dutch event and that his presence in the squad will be of benefit to team-mates Alex Lynn, Eddie Cheever and Lucas Auer.
"We were very satisfied with how Emil performed in testing with us and it's a real pleasure to work with him in a full race weekend," Rosin said.
"He has good experience in Formula 3 as he entered last year's European Championship and is currently committed to the German one with very good results.
"I'm absolutely sure that he will merge well with the other Prema drivers and will be a frontrunner in the Masters."
Rosin confirmed to AUTOSPORT that the Ferrari Driver Academy, which supports Marciello's career, had never intended to enter the Italian in the Masters. Marciello will return to Prema for the remainder of the European championship.
