BTCC Oulton Park: Plato doubles up in second race

Jason Plato made it two wins from two in the second British Touring Car race at Oulton Park

The MG man built up a 2.5-second lead in the first two laps before Jack Goff's Team Hard Vauxhall Insignia stopped on the pit entry and brought out the safety car.

Plato again pulled away at the restart and the main interest was created as rivals tried to find their way past Sam Tordoff's soft tyre-shod MG.

Gordon Shedden made it by first with a fine move at Old Hall just before half-distance. He quickly pulled away, but could not match Plato's pace.

Colin Turkington's WSR BMW continued its fine weekend. Turkington jumped to third at the start, lost out to Shedden just before the safety car, and then secured the final podium place by breaching Tordoff's defences across the start/finish line.

Matt Neal's works Honda Civic and the similar machine of Andrew Jordan also made it by the struggling MG before contact between Tordoff and Mat Jackson's Motorbase Ford Focus on the penultimate lap left the two machines crawling around out of contention.

Dave Newsham's Speedworks Motorsport Toyota Avensis thus completed the top six, ahead of Adam Morgan's Ciceley Racing example and the Audi A4 of Rob Austin.

Lea Wood, who was handed Jack Sears Trophy victory in race one after a penalty for Liam Griffin, led the S2000 runners throughout.

Plato's fourth 2013 victory moves him ahead of rival Matt Neal in the drivers' table with the reversed-grid event at Oulton still to go.
