Texas IndyCar: Tony Kanaan tops evening practice session

Tony Kanaan topped the second and final practice session before Saturday night's IndyCar race at Texas Motor Speedway

Kanaan went to the top shortly after the start of the Friday evening session with a 218.551mph lap for KV, and his speed remained unbeaten.

Andretti's James Hinchcliffe came closest with a 217.575mph effort, with polesitter Will Power rounding out the top three.

While the session was largely uneventful, it did reveal that Dale Coyne Racing's Justin Wilson's battle to get on pace with the rest of the pack is not yet over.

The Brit struggled during the opening session with a major imbalance on his car, and while he later reported that the cause of the problem had been identified, his team was not left with enough time to find a set-up.

Last year's Texas winner finished the evening almost nine miles per hour down on the leaders.

Meanwhile, Simon Pagenaud has become the third driver to have been issued a 10-place grid penalty for an engine change.

As was the case with Schmidt Peterson team-mate Tristan Vautier, the Detroit race-winner's penalty was issued due to his engine being changed before it reached the minimum threshold of 2000 miles.

The other affected driver, KV's Simona de Silvestro, was penalised on the grounds that engine manufacturer Chevrolet did not inform IndyCar officials of an engine failure within five hours of the end of last week's Detroit race.
