Audi believes its 2013 DTM driver line-up is the best yet

Audi's 2013 DTM line-up is its best ever, according to the manufacturer's motorsport chief Wolfgang Ullrich

With less than a month to go before the season-opener at Hockenheim on May 5, and having taken only two victories last year compared to BMW's five and Mercedes' three, Ullrich has set his stall out to take the title.

Every member of Audi's eight-car line-up, which includes former champions Mattias Ekstrom and Timo Scheider and new recruit Jamie Green, has a DTM podium finish to their name.

Ullrich believes that this experience of success will bode well for Audi, especially with the DTM introducing new features - including a Formula 1-style DRS and option tyres - this year.

"We're expecting the role of the driver to me more important this year, which is why we are relying on drivers who have all been on the podium," Ullrich said.

"I think we have the strongest squad we've ever had in the DTM and that's what you need to make it all the way to the top."

Ullrich admitted that the signing of Green, who spent eight years with Mercedes in the DTM before joining Audi, was partly motivated by its desire to win at the Norisring.

Green has taken victory at the Nuremberg street circuit four times in the last five years, while Audi, which is based just 60 miles away in Ingolstad, has not won there since Laurent Aiello triumphed in a TT in 2002.

"Jamie has gelled very well with the team and has been very well-received," Ullrich added.

"Maybe we will finally manage to win at the Norisring with him too."
