Marrakech WTCC: Tom Boardman ruled out after warm-up crash
Tom Boardman has been ruled out of the Marrakech round of the World Touring Car Championship after a heavy crash in Sunday's warm-up
The Briton had just set the fourth fastest time of the session when he appeared to suffer from a technical problem and ploughed straight on at Turn 7. He shot across the bows of Alex MacDowall's Chevrolet and straight on into the tyre wall.
Boardman was initially taken to the medical centre following the impact, but was subsequently moved to Marrakech's military hospital for checks.
He was later released and returned to the track, where he confirmed he was fine and that he had impacted the wall at around 100km/h due to a brake failure.
His car was returned to the garage with extensive damage to the front end. The cause of the accident has not yet been diagnosed.
Boardman had already suffered a string of mishaps prior to his heavy warm-up accident.
He and James Nash collided on the penultimate lap of the first race at Monza while fighting for seventh, while his qualifying run on the Moroccan street circuit was ruined when Stefano D'Aste spun directly into his path.
He had been due to start Sunday's races from 19th as a result.
Boardman's crash means the start of the Auto GP race has been delayed while officials repair the damage to the barriers.
