Andrew Jordan tops Donington Park British Touring Car test

Andrew Jordan set the pace in the British Touring Car Championship's official pre-season test at Donington Park on Thursday

The Eurotech Racing driver took his Honda Civic around the track in 1m10.358s around 90 minutes into the four-hour session, knocking Jason Plato off the top spot.

Jordan was using the new Dunlop option tyre that comes into force this year, to make his mark.

Plato's time was just 0.071 seconds shy of the reigning independents' champion's, and was also inside his pole position mark of 2012 at the same circuit.

Champion Gordon Shedden found four tenths of a second late in the session to go third for Honda, while Adam Morgan saved his best until the final few minutes to take fourth in his Ciceley Toyota.

Speedworks driver Dave Newsham made it two Toyotas in the top five while Matt Neal rounded out the top six for Honda.

A total of 23 drivers set times during the day with series returnee Colin Turkington winding up 10th fastest - and 1.3s off the pace - in WSR's brand-new BMW 125i.

Turkington missed over an hour of running at the start of the session. The fastest of the runners in the Jack Sears Trophy for S2000 machinery was Motorbase Ford driver Liam Griffin.

He was 18th and 2.5s slower than Jordan. Griffin brought out the red flags after crashing at the exit of the Old Hairpin. Rob Austin also caused a stoppage after getting his Audi beached in the gravel at the same corner.

Ollie Jackson damaged the undertray of his Toyota after bouncing over the grass at the Craner Curves. A stoppage was required to remove debris from the circuit.
