Mercedes open to future Robert Kubica DTM deal

Mercedes has left the door open for a potential DTM deal for Robert Kubica in the future, following the ex-Formula 1 driver's decision to compete in rallying this year

AUTOSPORT revealed on Thursday that Kubica will fight for the European Rally Championship this season.

The Pole also recently tested a Mercedes C-coupe DTM car , and the marque's new motorsport boss Toto Wolff says that he would be open to doing a deal with Kubica in the future.

"Robert has to shake away the devils and that is up to him," Wolff told this week's AUTOSPORT magazine.

"He is very keen on continuing rallying and I can understand why he wants to do this, because he is a real driver.

"But if he decides at some point that he wants to continue in circuit racing, from a professional point of view I would love to work with him."

Kubica's rally deal has not been confirmed yet, but Citroen's rally chief Yves Matton told AUTOSPORT the situation was "looking good" on Thursday.

While the ERC has already held two rounds this year, the series' points system means that Kubica could have a realistic shot at the title providing he contests eight of the remaining 11 events.
