Double R Racing switches to European F3 with three cars

Double R Racing has confirmed its Formula 3 European Championship entry in the wake of British F3's truncation to just four events

Anthony Hieatt's team had signed Antonio Giovinazzi and Sean Gelael for the British series before Christmas.

AUTOSPORT revealed in January that a move to the European championship was highly likely, thanks to the recent decision to reduce British F3 to a mini-series.

In addition to finalising its European move, Double R has signed 19-year-old Colombian Tatiana Calderon to complete its driver line-up.

Calderon graduated from Star Mazda - in which she was a podium finisher - to the European F3 Open last year and took ninth in the championship.

Hieatt is confident that despite his trio's relative inexperience and the team's lack of European mileage, Double R can still be competitive.

"We're delighted Antonio, Sean and Tatiana are making the step into European competition with Double R." he said.

"We have raced on the Hankook tyres before, so we know what to expect where they're concerned.

"Although there are some highly experienced drivers in European F3 this year, our three are very promising and could well spring some surprises.

"Testing so far has gone well, we've had some good running at Pembrey, so now we can't wait for the season to get underway."

Double R did gain some European F3 experience last year, the British F3 rounds at Pau, Spa and Norisring all counting towards the European championship.

It also competed at the Brands Hatch European event, which was not a British F3 round.
