Alex Premat stays on in V8 Supercars for 2013 season
Former Audi DTM and sportscar driver Alex Premat will continue in V8 Supercars this season despite a disappointing rookie campaign
The Frenchman made a surprise decision to start a new career in the Australian championship in 2012 with the race-winning Garry Rogers Motorsport team.
But Premat struggled to get up to speed, taking only one top-15 finish and ending the year 27th in the standings.
Team boss Garry Rogers admitted retaining Premat had been a tough decision, but said he knew the former Le Mans Series LMP1 champion and Macau Formula 3 Grand Prix winner had the talent to succeed in the end, following encouraging signs in the final rounds of 2012.
"Alex was a gamble last year and we struggled," said Rogers.
"There was no doubt that he has the skills, but we didn't get the best out of him. I was disappointed, based on his history we believed he could do better.
"From Abu Dhabi on he started to hit his straps. When I was deciding what do with the driver line-up, his qualifying and racing performance in Sydney was as good as many who have been driving the cars for a number of years.
"I decided I had invested a lot in him and he has invested in us, moving his family over to Australia, we can get more out of him and more results like Sydney."
