Zengo Motorsport switches to Honda for 2013 WTCC season
Hungarian World Touring Car Championship team Zengo Motorsport has secured Honda technical support to field a new Civic in 2013 and 2014
Independents' champion Norbert Michelisz will be retained in a single-car effort for the forthcoming season.
Michelisz scored an impressive reversed-grid victory in last year's Hungaroring round aboard a Zengo BMW 3 Series.
"In terms of driving, switching back from rear-wheel drive to front-wheel drive won't be easy in the beginning," said Michelisz.
"But with the dedication and help from Honda and my team, now I can focus on long- term goals."
Zengo will remain an independent team, but its agreement with Honda will ensure access to all technical developments.
Factory Honda team JAS Motorsport will build the cars in Italy, while the engine will be supplied from Japan. Support for project has been provided by Honda Hungary's dealer network.
"In Honda we have found the perfect partner to fight for the World Championship," said Zengo team principal Zoltan Zengo.
"We thank Honda Hungary for their support, and feel honoured that in Japan and Italy there's a top level racing car under construction for us."
Zengo's switch of brands will leave its 2012 WTCC rookie Gabor Weber in search of a seat.
"To fully focus the team's resources, we decided to enter only one car in the 2013 season," explained Zengo.
