Jazeman Jaafar moves to Formula Renault 3.5 with Carlin

British Formula 3 runner-up Jazeman Jaafar will step up to Formula Renault 3.5 with Carlin for this season

The Malaysian, who has raced for the team for the previous three seasons in F3, will stay with the British outfit after testing for its FR3.5 squad at the end of last year.

"I'm very excited to be making the move up to Formula Renault 3.5 with Carlin which is obviously a team I know very well," said the 20-year-old.

"Making the transition to FR3.5 has been easier because I've done it within Carlin and I already feel comfortable in the car.

"There will be a lot to learn next year but I'm confident that we have the potential to make the very most out of it."

Team boss Trevor Carlin added: "Jazeman is still very young, but now is the right time for him to make the step up to FR3.5.

"We've had the pleasure of having him as a part of Carlin for the past three seasons and we've seen him mature and improve every year.

"Based on his performance in testing, I expect him to improve even further in his rookie season in the series."

Carlin won back-to-back FR3.5 championships with Mikhail Aleshin and Robert Wickens in 2010-2011. It finished sixth in the 2012 teams' championship with Kevin Magnussen and Will Stevens, who have moved on to DAMS and P1 Motorsport respectively for 2013.
