Macau WTCC: Darryl O'Young hopes crash damage won't end weekend

Bamboo driver Darryl O'Young is optimistic that he can participate in the remainder of the World Touring Car Championship finale in Macau after sustaining heavy damage to his Bamboo Chevrolet Cruze in an accident during Thursday's test

"There is some concern that we have damaged a chassis leg, and I think the gearbox may also be broken," said O'Young, who has a large number of supporters in attendance for his 'home' race.

"However, I am pretty confident that Bamboo can fix it."

The Hong Kong racer lost control on the exit of the Mandarin corner, before sliding across the track and hitting the barriers nose-first.

"Maybe I was bit too quick," conceded the 32-year-old, who has extensive experience of the Macau Guia circuit from the WTCC and Porsche Carrera Cup Asia.

"It's the first time that I have ever crashed there and I am not very happy about that. The track was a little bit green and I just ran wide and hit the wall.

"Mandarin is definitely not flat, you have a quick lift, but there's no braking. It is quite tough. If you go a little bit too quick into the corner it is already finished. That's the thing about Macau."

O'Young started this season's WTCC behind the wheel of a Special Tuning SEAT Leon, before returning to his former team Bamboo Engineering at Suzuka.
