WRC Spain: Sebastien Loeb looks to survive afternoon stages
Sebastien Loeb's focus will be on surviving this afternoon's repeated Rally of Spain stages before mounting an attack on the all-asphalt weekend for an eighth successive win in Catalunya
Loeb is in fourth place on the Salou-based event, 19 seconds behind leader Mads Ostberg.
The Frenchman rued his decision to run further back on the road after the weather turned wet on the gravel stages in Tarragona today.
"Just to stay on the road was very, very difficult," said Loeb. "We have to get through this afternoon and then have a look what is possible for the rest of the rally. But, even when you are driving like this, driving to survive, it is still very difficult with the rain.
"It was impossible to stay in the ruts today, if you went in there then you were aquaplaning all of the time and then coming out of the ruts, the grip is not so good. We had a few moments and this is why I decided to back off and get through."
Loeb's Citroen team principal Yves Matton said: "I am very confident because he's not so far [behind]. Also' it's Sebastien and he has two days to do it.
"I can be only confident he is coming back to the lead. The idea is to do one and two (first and second) and both of our drivers are in a good position."
